Youth Funding Panel positions 2008

The Youth Opportunity and Capital Funds will be continuing until 2011.  The Government has given Herefordshire Council £450,000 over the next 3 years to involve young people in deciding what activities and projects are needed across the county and in their local area.

This is where YOU come in..!  Young people control the money and the decisions – they decide how the scheme works and how the funds get spent.

Members from the Youth Council, other youth groups and beneficiaries of the funds currently make up the panel.  Further members are needed to take up positions on the panel from March/April 2008.

How many people are needed?

  • Approx 10 depending on the current panels commitments.

Who is needed?

  • Committed young people aged 13-19 years old.

To do what?

  • To meet regularly (sometimes weekly /evenings) in Hereford as a management group and funding panel.
  • To decide which projects get granted money and how much they get.
  • To manage and monitor the scheme.
  • To make visits, where possible, to see that the money is used to benefit young people and their communities.
  • To gain feedback on what difference the projects have made in the county.

What skills are needed?
You don’t have to have had any previous experience but it would be beneficial if:

  • You like voicing your opinions and are interested in making things better for youth in Herefordshire.
  • You enjoy working as a team and you are good at listening to others.
  • You enjoy problem solving and make decisions with others.
  • You enjoy reading- (funding applications etc).
  • You like having a say about how things can be improved.
  • You are committed to the project and are able to attend regular meetings and visits.

Is there any training provided?

  • Yes a training day is held so panel members are better equipped to fairly assess and decide on applications.  Ongoing training and support is also provided.

What else do I need to know?

  • All involvement is on a voluntary basis. You have the right to tell us at any time if you don’t feel able to continue.
  • In return we will provide whatever support you need and try to make it a fun and rewarding thing to do.
  • Any travel costs you incur will be repaid so that you are not out of pocket.
  • We will provide you with recognition for your efforts and achievements.

What next?

  • If you are interested or know of any young people who may be interested in getting involved please contact Amy Lunt: Youth Involvement Worker.

As you can see there are limited places so the panel will need to respond to those who indicate an early interest.
